You plan to separate or existing arrangements no longer fit your income, work or family life. A practical change does not automatically alter an agreement or court order. Arslan Advocaten assists clients from Zeist through Utrecht with new arrangements and the assessment of existing obligations.
Map the current legal position
Collect the settlement agreement, parenting plan and earlier court orders. Identify which arrangements are followed and where practice differs from the documents. For a new separation, explain your relationship type and any prenuptial or cohabitation agreement. A lawyer is required for a divorce application to the Dutch court.
Changes in income or expenses
A different job, business or housing expense may raise maintenance questions. Record what changed, when and the supporting evidence. Recalculation requires more than comparing two monthly net income figures. Discuss whether negotiation, a written amendment or court proceedings are needed. Reducing payments unilaterally while the position is unclear can lead to disputed arrears.
Fit care arrangements to daily life
Describe the current schedule, school and childcare times and why a change is requested. Distinguish a temporary exchange of days from a permanent alteration. Record transport and communication arrangements. A relocation or school-choice dispute needs timely, separate assessment; a practical preference alone does not decide the matter.
Housing, assets and final settlement
List joint and individual assets, loans and ongoing contracts. Remaining in a home is a different question from ownership or liability to the bank. An agreement between partners does not automatically amend a contract with a third party. Have the complete proposal assessed before giving up rights or agreeing final amounts.
Documents for the initial assessment

Frequently asked questions
Does any change justify different maintenance payments?
No. The legal basis, earlier arrangements and specific change must be assessed. The information required and possible starting date also matter.
Can I ask for help with just one issue?
Explain which part you want assessed, such as a maintenance proposal or care arrangement. We agree the scope beforehand and identify connections with other issues.
