How do I get to the office?

You will receive route information for car and public transport when you make your appointment; ask for it via the contact page or by telephone. That way you hear the current situation rather than a description on this page that goes out of date.

How does the office in Utrecht work?

The Utrecht office is a full office of Arslan Advocaten: colleagues from the firm work here, and this is where you are received for your meeting.

What this means in practice:

  • Here you have a meeting with your lawyer, go through documents and discuss your case, just as at the firm’s other offices.
  • Meetings are scheduled in advance, as at all of the firm’s offices. That way, the person handling your case is present and has read your documents.
  • Within the firm, it is decided which lawyer handles your case. This is based on the content of the case and availability, not on your postcode.

This is stated explicitly because a scheduled meeting saves you waiting time.

How do I make an appointment at the office in Utrecht?

Call 030 747 0038 or use the contact page; your meeting will be scheduled at the office at Atoomweg 63. Meetings are scheduled Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 17:30.

Within those hours you can also call with a question. An appointment lasts as long as your case requires, and it is scheduled in advance so that the lawyer has read your file before you arrive, instead of you telling your story to someone who then has to look into it all over again.

If you call outside those times, leave your name, telephone number and a one-sentence description of your issue. You will be called back.

Which areas of law does the office in Utrecht handle?

Through the office in Utrecht you can get help in all areas of law of Arslan Advocaten, not only personal injury. Below is a short description of each area, with a link to the page where it is explained in more detail.

  • Personal injury. You have been injured through someone else’s actions: in a road accident, an accident at work, a medical error or a fall. The lawyer holds the liable party to account and recovers your loss, both your financial loss and compensation for pain and suffering (smartengeld). For information specific to this city, see our page for a personal injury lawyer in Utrecht.
  • Employment law. The relationship between employer and employee: dismissal, a settlement agreement, a conflict at work, unpaid wages or long-term illness. Both employees and employers can contact the firm. Short time limits often apply.
  • Tenancy law. Your home or business premises: termination of the lease, defects and overdue maintenance, rent increases, nuisance or a threatened eviction. Landlords can also be assisted.
  • Family law. Divorce, maintenance, the division of joint property, parental authority and contact arrangements with children. Cases in which the legal and the personal are closely intertwined.
  • Criminal law. Assistance if you are a suspect: at a police interview, an arrest, a summons or a hearing. Victims can also be assisted in criminal proceedings.
  • Business law. The legal side of running a business: contracts, partnerships, debt collection and disputes with suppliers or customers.

Arslan Advocaten also has information in English on insurance law and administrative law.

Not sure which area of law your issue falls under? You do not need to know. Describe what has happened; the firm will determine who handles your case.

You can see who works at Arslan Advocaten, and in which role, on the team page.

What does a first meeting cost?

What a case costs depends on the area of law and on whether you qualify for subsidised legal aid, which is why the costs are discussed with you before any costs are incurred. You will hear in advance on what basis the work is done, so that you are not faced with a surprise afterwards.

In practice there are different ways in which a case is funded. In personal injury cases where liability has been established, the reasonable costs of legal assistance in principle count as recoverable loss (Article 6:96(2) of the Dutch Civil Code) and are then usually paid by the liable party’s insurer; if liability has not been established, this does not happen automatically. In other cases an hourly rate may apply, or you may qualify for legal aid through the Legal Aid Board (Raad voor Rechtsbijstand), in which case you pay a personal contribution. What applies in your case depends on your situation and the case, and that is precisely why it is made concrete on the phone or in the first meeting instead of putting an amount on a web page that may not be correct for you at all.

Call 030 747 0038 and explain your situation. Then you will know where you stand before you sign anything.

What should I bring to a first appointment?

Bring everything that relates to your issue, including things you think are unimportant, plus valid proof of identity.

Bring Why
Valid proof of identity so that the lawyer can establish your identity
All letters and emails about the matter they show what happened and who said what
Contracts and agreements employment contract, tenancy agreement, settlement agreement
Official documents summons, decision, ruling, letter holding someone liable, with the date on it
Correspondence with an insurer in personal injury and liability cases, including medical documents you already have
Your legal expenses insurance policy to determine whether it covers the costs
A short timeline what happened when, in your own words

A short timeline is the most underestimated item. Half a page with dates and events in order saves a lot of time in the first meeting, and dates matter because time limits start to run from a specific day.

Do you not have everything? Come anyway. Missing documents can be added later; postponing an appointment because one document is missing usually costs you more than it gains, especially if a time limit is running.

In which languages can I be helped?

At Arslan Advocaten you can be helped in Dutch, Turkish, Polish and English. You do not need to bring a family member or acquaintance to translate.

In legal matters, nuance counts: what exactly was said, what exactly was agreed, what you did and did not sign. If you can tell your story in your own language, you tell it more completely, and those details often determine the outcome.

When you make the appointment, let us know which language you would like the meeting to be held in, so that this can be taken into account in the planning.

How quickly can I be seen?

How quickly you can be seen depends on the urgency of your case and the diary, which is why calling is usually faster than waiting: 030 747 0038. Cases with a running time limit are given priority.

Be as specific as possible about what the matter concerns and whether a date is involved. A summons to a hearing, a time limit for lodging an objection, a settlement agreement that has to be signed within a few days, an arrest: these are situations in which days count. If you mention it, it can be taken into account in the planning. If you do not, your request is treated as an ordinary request.

If there is no time limit and you mainly have a question, that is just as good a reason to call. A short conversation that shows you do not need to do anything is also an outcome.

Can I also go to another office?

Yes. Arslan Advocaten also has offices in The Hague (Paletplein 80 and Goeverneurlaan 445), Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Tilburg and Eindhoven. You choose the location that suits you best.

If you would like to know which location is most convenient for your situation, or if you would like an appointment at a different location, ask when you make the appointment or via the contact page.
