Which areas of law does the office in Eindhoven handle?

Through the office in Eindhoven you can get help across the full range of Arslan Advocaten: personal injury, employment law, tenancy law, family law, criminal law and business law. Below is a short description of each area, with a link to the page where it is explained in more detail.

  • Personal injury. You have been injured through someone else’s actions: in a road accident, an accident at work, a medical error or a fall. The lawyer holds the liable party to account and recovers your loss, both your financial loss and compensation for pain and suffering (smartengeld). For information specific to this city, see our page for a personal injury lawyer in Eindhoven.
  • Employment law. The relationship between employer and employee: dismissal, a settlement agreement, a conflict at work, unpaid wages or long-term illness. Both employees and employers can contact the firm. Short time limits often apply.
  • Tenancy law. Your home or business premises: termination of the lease, defects and overdue maintenance, rent increases, nuisance or a threatened eviction. Landlords can also be assisted.
  • Family law. Divorce, maintenance, the division of joint property, parental authority and contact arrangements with children. Cases in which the legal and the personal are closely intertwined.
  • Criminal law. Assistance if you are a suspect: at a police interview, an arrest, a summons or a hearing. Victims can also be assisted in criminal proceedings.
  • Business law. The legal side of running a business: contracts, partnerships, debt collection and disputes with suppliers or customers.

Arslan Advocaten also has information in English on insurance law and administrative law.

Not sure which area of law your issue falls under? You do not need to know. Describe what has happened; the firm will determine who handles your case.

You can see who works at Arslan Advocaten, and in which role, on the team page.

What does a first meeting cost?

The costs depend on the type of case and your situation, and they are discussed with you before any work starts, so that you are never faced with a surprise. When the appointment is scheduled, it is explained which cost arrangement is possible in your case.

Broadly speaking, there are three routes. In personal injury cases where liability has been established, the reasonable costs of legal assistance in principle count as recoverable loss (Article 6:96(2) of the Dutch Civil Code) and are then usually paid by the liable party’s insurer; if liability has not been established, this does not happen automatically. There is also subsidised legal aid, through the Legal Aid Board (Raad voor Rechtsbijstand), if your income and assets are below the applicable thresholds; you then pay a personal contribution. And there is payment on an hourly basis or at a rate agreed in advance.

You will hear in advance which route applies to you and what that means in concrete terms. If you have legal expenses insurance, mention this at the first contact: in many cases you may choose your own lawyer.

What should I bring to a first appointment?

Bring valid proof of identity and all documents relating to your case, including those you think may not matter.

Bring Why
Valid proof of identity so that the lawyer can establish your identity
All letters and emails about the matter they show what happened and who said what
Contracts and agreements employment contract, tenancy agreement, settlement agreement
Official documents summons, decision, ruling, letter holding someone liable, with the date on it
Correspondence with an insurer in personal injury and liability cases, including medical documents you already have
Your legal expenses insurance policy to determine whether it covers the costs
A short timeline what happened when, in your own words

A short timeline is the most underestimated item. Half a page with dates and events in order saves a lot of time in the first meeting, and dates matter because time limits start to run from a specific day.

Do you not have everything? Come anyway. Missing documents can be added later; postponing an appointment because one document is missing usually costs you more than it gains, especially if a time limit is running.

In which languages can I be helped?

At Arslan Advocaten you can be helped in Dutch, Turkish, Polish and English. You do not need to bring a family member or acquaintance to translate.

In legal matters, nuance counts: what exactly was said, what exactly was agreed, what you did and did not sign. If you can tell your story in your own language, you tell it more completely, and those details often determine the outcome.

When you make the appointment, let us know which language you would like the meeting to be held in, so that this can be taken into account in the planning.

How quickly can I be seen?

How quickly you can be seen depends on the urgency of your case and the available space in the diary; call 040 711 3099 and you will hear straight away what is possible. For cases with a running time limit, the office checks whether it can be sooner.

There are plenty of matters that cannot wait: an arrest or a police interview, an announced eviction, summary dismissal, a settlement agreement with a response period of a few days, or summary proceedings. If you are in such a situation, say so in your first call. And in the meantime, preferably do not sign anything before you have had advice.

An appointment does not necessarily have to take place in Eindhoven. If a telephone or video call can be arranged sooner, that will be suggested: it saves travel time and often provides the same clarity.

Can I also go to another office?

Yes. Arslan Advocaten also has offices in The Hague (Paletplein 80 and Goeverneurlaan 445), Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Tilburg. You choose the location that suits you best.

If you live in Eindhoven but work in Utrecht, for example, you can arrange to meet there. The addresses and contact details of the other locations are on the contact page.
