In 2026 the basic rent in the Netherlands may rise by at most 4.1% in social housing (from 1 July 2026), 6.1% for mid-rent and 4.4% in the private sector (from 1 January 2026). The proposal must be made in writing at least two months before the effective date (Article 7:252(1) Dutch Civil Code). The rent increase check shows whether your increase is too high and whether your landlord met the deadlines.
