Use this calculator for an estimate of your statutory transition payment (transitievergoeding): one third of a monthly salary per year of service, plus a pro rata share for the rest of the employment, up to the statutory maximum. Enter your start date, end date and gross monthly salary. The result is a gross amount. Amounts and the maximum are as at 1 January 2026.
Is the amount your employer is offering correct? An employment lawyer at Arslan Advocaten will review your transition payment or settlement agreement free of charge and without obligation.

How the calculator works
- Monthly salary. Gross monthly salary, plus holiday allowance, plus one twelfth of a fixed 13th month or year-end bonus, plus fixed pay components (overtime, shift allowance) per month, plus one thirty-sixth of variable components over three calendar years (Decree on the definition of wages for the transition payment, in Dutch). A company car and expense allowances do not count.
- Length of service. The number of full years between start and end date, plus the remaining part to the day.
- Calculation. One third of a monthly salary per full year, plus the same pro rata for the remainder (Article 7:673(2) Dutch Civil Code).
- Maximum. In 2026 at most € 102,000, or your annual salary if that is higher (Article 7:673(2) and (3) DCC). The amount is adjusted every 1 January.
What the calculator does not take into account
- Earlier contracts or employers. Successive contracts, agency or payroll periods and a previous employer that counts as a successor can count if the gap was no longer than six months. Enter the first start date, or have it checked.
- Partial dismissal and a structural reduction of working hours of at least 20%: then only part of the payment applies.
- Costs deducted by the employer (outplacement, training): only allowed under strict conditions, including your prior written consent.
- Exceptions. Among others seriously culpable conduct, retirement age, and employees under 18 who worked 12 hours a week or less on average.
- A settlement agreement. There the payment is negotiable; the statutory transition payment is the usual benchmark, not a minimum.
All of this is explained on our transition payment page. The Dutch government also provides an official explanation and calculator (in Dutch). Does the result differ from your employer's offer, or have you been offered a settlement agreement? Have it assessed free of charge.

Frequently asked questions
How is the transition payment calculated in the Netherlands?
One third of your monthly salary (including holiday allowance, a fixed 13th month and fixed and variable pay components) per full year of service, plus the same pro rata for the remaining period. In 2026 the maximum is € 102,000, or your annual salary if higher (Article 7:673(2) and (3) Dutch Civil Code).
Does holiday allowance count towards the transition payment?
Yes. Holiday allowance counts in the monthly salary on which the transition payment is based, as does a fixed 13th month or fixed year-end bonus.
